GFT presents CODE_n: EnergyDeck uses crowdsourced energy efficiency data to get the big picture

Tomorrow, EnergyDeck CEO Benjamin Kott will join the GFT team at the CODE_n press preview and later the same day; represent the CODE_n finalists at the CeBIT press event tomorrow evening. Recently, I have been putting the spotlight on some of the CODE_n  startups from the UK. This time I am looking at EnergyDeck so as to better understand their big data approach to the global challenge of improving energy efficiency.

The executive team have an impressive track record coming from the likes of Google, CBRE, Opower and the Carbon Trust. Three of them also share training as aeronautical engineers. This common background has fostered an ability to look at the big picture and has also fired a passion for attention to detail.

energydeckEnergyDeck is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform built on Open Source technology that harnesses crowdsourced energy information from many sources which it analyses. EnergyDeck has already been chosen by a number of corporations, housing trusts and commercial property owners to ascertain how their buildings’ energy efficiency stacks up against the norm in their industry or area. In addition, it will also highlight any issues in achieving the energy efficiency ratings set by the EU.

The startup has already gained industry recognition by being crowned Idea Idol champion at the UK’s Green Corporate Energy 2013 event.

From a financial services and investment industry perspective, EnergyDeck provides valuable energy related insights into commercial property portfolios. According to Michael Charalambous, EnergyDeck marketing director, by 2018 around 20% of commercial property in the UK will no longer be marketable as it will not comply with the Energy Act of 2011. The Act stipulates that all commercial properties must achieve at least a basic “E” energy efficiency rating. Using EnergyDeck will allow facilities managers and investors to identify issues as they head towards the 2018 deadline and give advice on available corrective measures.

As mentioned previously, EnergyDeck and other CODE_n UK finalists will be joining GFT, Clemens Weisshaar and EY for the media preview of CODE_n 2014 on February 18th. Media interested in attending should contact the GFT PR team on gftteam@omarketing.com. The UK finalists will also join the other CODE_n big data startup hopefuls at CeBIT 10-14th March.
