CODE_n: News from CeBIT

Just back from an epic week at CeBIT supporting CODE_n with the GFT team.

The 50 CODE_n finalists were installed in Hall 16, including TheGreenAge and Yunasko from the UK and CarbonControl from Ireland. CODE_n is the international platform for digital pioneers, innovators and groundbreaking startups, which was initiated by GFT in 2011 with the aim of promoting excellent talent and unique business ideas. This year’s theme was Smart Solutions for Global Challenges and the winners, announced on Thursday, were GREENCLOUDS and Changers.com.Bild 204

In the “Emerging Company” category, GREENCLOUDS is a Dutch company which has developed a technology platform that makes idle resources in data processing centers available to others. This makes it economical for companies to get their hands on cloud computing resources. But it also opens up an additional source of income since companies can then sell excess IT capacities when their own servers are not running to their full extent.

Winner in the “Startup” category was Changers.com, a community of energy-minded people. This company from Berlin wants to change things – our awareness and our use of energy resources. The startup’s light, portable solar modules allow everyone to generate their own energy and use this to charge their smartphone or tablet computer. In doing so, the devices measure the amount of CO2 that has been saved. The corresponding data is transferred to an online community, and the user earns credits for every gram of CO2 saved. Users can then exchange these “Changers Credits” for sustainable products and services.

It was amazing to see so many inventive and innovative ideas in one place in the buzzing CODE_n Hall!

In other news, we showcased a new customer scoring app, based on SAP HANA at CeBIT. It enables banks to analyse and evaluate huge volumes of data in real time. We also announced our collaboration with University of Tübingen in Germany which has resulted in a new authentication process for online banking using NFC. More on both of these to follow.
