The GFT London team got into the Olympic spirit when the Flame came past the office last Thursday morning, en route to the stadium just a few miles away. We were all in the office early and squeezed out on to the balcony to watch the torch come round the corner from Martin-le-Grand and up into Cheapside, heading east.
The Olympic & Paralympic marathons will also run past the office, which looks out over St Paul’s Cathedral. We’ve even got our own, financial-district version of Wenlock on Cheapside, dressed in pinstripes and carrying a mobile phone.
In true City style, it will be possible to watch some of the Games from the pub at lunchtime and we’ll be catching-up on the day’s events at home in the evening. Some of the GFT London team have tickets to events, including the Men’s 100m (Round 1), Women’s heptathlon, boxing, hockey, handball and the much coveted beach volleyball in Horseguards Parade, near Buckingham Palace.
So far the travel chaos hasn’t materialised so we’re keeping fingers crossed for a successful Games for London.
